VOICES, a BIPOC Adoptee Community

For us, by us

VOICES is a 501c3. Our mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where BIPOC Adoptees can come together, share their stories, build connections, and access adoptee-centered programming.

Adoptees unite to strengthen our community through collaboration, mutual aid, and resource sharing. Join us, whether you're an adoptee or ally, to connect and contribute to our shared success!

Our Approach

Accessible & Low-Barrier Approach

We offer a sliding scale cost and our community comes together to offer scholarships so no adoptee is barred from our events or resources. We also prioritize accessibility in our ethos as an organization– we commit to visibility, acoustic, mobility, and technology accessibility. Please reach out with inquiries about accessibility for any of our events.

Mutual Aid & Resource Sharing

Adoptees supporting adoptees– this is the magic! Our community is resourceful and generous. We believe in abundance in our community and look for opportunities to share resources. If you have an immediate need please reach out and we’ll get you integrated into our network.

Collaborations & Partnerships

Together is better! We want to amplify the work being done by adoptee-led organizations and combine our networks to reach more adoptees. We believe in the power of the collective adoptee voice so please reach out with any ideas for collaborations or partnerships.

Services

  • Adoptees are the experts on adoption. We live through the experiences of separation and navigating the complexities of adoption, grief and joy. Our panel presentations offer diverse perspectives from multiple adoptees as we discuss themes central to adoption: separation, race, identity, loss, reunification, and more.

  • Adoptees need each other! Our social mixers are an opportunity for adoptees to gather and build community with each other. These are safe spaces where you will be seen and heard and celebrated. Our storytelling events are a safe space to share and hear other adoptee stories.

  • Interested in a community bike ride or perhaps a group cooking class? Adoptee-led events are a great way to meet fellow adoptees and explore your city!

  • For us, by us! Immersive multi-day conferences bring our community together to celebrate each other and discuss real solutions to the systemic corruption and racism in the adoption industry.

  • We aren’t just adoptees; we are also educators, social workers, therapists, artists, and more. Our collective expertise is leveraged to create educational curriculum and workshops to offer insight to non-adoptees and adoptees alike. We are currently partnering with Portland State University for our pilot curriculum program and we are excited to learn and add more opportunities to partner with other organizations.
